Intergenerational income mobility in Sweden: A look at the spatial disparities across municipalities

This paper provides a comprehensive overview of intergenerational income mobility in Sweden. Intergenerational is considered both relative and absolute terms, the analysis carried out at individual municipality level. We use multilevel models to explore correlation between upward social, economic demographic characteristics cities. account for wider set local characteristics, such as spatial distribution inequality within city housing affordability that have not been by previous studies analysing social United States or other European countries. The analyses are on three subpopulations: offspring who live different than their parents (spatial mobile population); where they grew up immobile belonging visible minority groups. Our results show substantial differences across municipalities, meaning particular combination attributes contributes shaping chance status attainment among young generations. Highly municipalities more significant human capital, residential segregation income, levels inequality, greater accessibility jobs. indicate dependence parents’ support network less importance, (regardless background) especially larger urban areas associated with children.
